Schema™ is a creative design and technology studio. We create information experiences that empower people. We specialize in software design and development, visual design and branding, information design, and data visualization. More
Schema was founded in 2012 by designer Christian Marc Schmidt, with the belief that the present information age calls for new interfaces and metaphors, that empower people by giving them control over and insight into the growing amount of information they create and consume. We are experts in the areas of interaction design, visual design, and data visualization, and approach every project from a user-centric perspective. The experiences we design aim for structural and conceptual clarity, where form is the result of both function and behavior. Our clients are startups with innovative products and services, progressive cultural institutions, and corporations who understand the value of design. Our process is collaborative and research-driven, emphasizing prototyping as a method for inquiry, discovery and validation. Our output is multifaceted, ranging from websites and mobile applications to site-specific media installations. Schema is located in Seattle, WA.
Prior to Schema, Christian was a senior-level designer at Microsoft, an Associate Partner at Pentagram, and an interaction designer at IDEO. Christian holds a BFA from Parsons School of Design in New York, and an MFA from the Yale University School of Art. His work has received widespread recognition. Christian was a visiting professor at the University of Washington and NYU ITP, and he speaks frequently on his work and design approach.
