Visualizing the Chemical Fingerprint of Cannabis
Cannaroma Terpene Visualization
Terpenes are organic compounds that play a direct role in the aroma, taste and effects of many plants, including cannabis. Cannaroma is Washington-based company that has developed a kit that allows users to study terpenes directly and to help users refine their terpene-sensing palate. Cannaroma approached Schema to design a poster that visualizes the terpenes and thus the ‘chemical fingerprint’ of several popular strains of commercial cannabis.
Schema worked closely with Cannaroma to bring scientific concepts to life. The visual design focuses on representing the ephemeral quality of aroma — large, colorful circles expand or decrease according to their availability for a particular cannabis strain. The colors evoke the scents of the terpenes themselves. Outlines in black highlight the two strains of marijuana under discussion (Trainwreck and Jack Herer). Additional and supporting information is included in the column to the right.
The poster strikes an elegant balance between technical terminology and an eye-catching visual design. It creates a sophisticated look and feel unlike anything else in the industry, and underlines Cannaroma's role in research and education for its audiences.
